2001 - 2003
Twenty-one personalities from the fields
of theory, art creation and journalism were questioned in 2002
about different aspects of contemporary art in the world wide
web. Today, their statements offer a definitive overview of the
many positions held, relating to art phenomena in the web.
The inherent possibilities of the world
wide web, as well as a highly engaging conceptuality of new
media (art) are emphasised.

Even though research avoids the word
“new” as much as possible, it has become enshrined
in a combination denoting media that use digital production
methods. Any engagement with these instruments - accordingly
referred to as New Media - opens up numerous fields of research
for a wide range of approaches. The field of art does not stay
aloof, either: it exeriments with the media and probes their
possibilities.
Thus, engagement with New Media is not
reserved to science alone, it also thrives in extra-mural
research projects and advanced initiatives of individuals.
Moreover, the groups whose contribution is central to the
establishment of these media are important players: they are
producers of content, operators who create and maintain the
framework, and users who accepts the offers.
