overall view
The unknown extra of a science-fiction
film, i.e. Flash Gordon, becomes a successive metaphor for a
militant threat, which defines life ”over there”,
while standing completely on the sidelines ”over
here”. Thus, while some fight, others look on or
don’t even notice the fight. In addition, the fighters
are too powerful anyway, because they are larger than life.
Thus they ”protect” every day life, but at the same
time they control it. In the end they still have struck out
– GOT YOU!
